Pruning and Growing

Matthew 13:3-8 3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. We are the ground and the Word is the seed.

Hear the Word and learn. Never hearing the Word before could be like verses 4-6. There is no good soil for the seed to take root. Life experience and unbelief can be like verse 7, they don’t see the light or when something happens it is choked. Verse eight would be like fertile ground, one has heard the Word it starts to root and it goes deeper as they study and do the Word. As we grow, we are growing in Jesus. He is the Vine and we are the branch.

John 15:1-8 1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

God shown me over the summer, the pruning, weeding and planting we do is similar to what He does with us. As I was pruning old branches away and shaping the tree, all the while trimming where He asked me to, He explained that He does the same for us. The areas that are not fruitful He takes away. The areas where we are, He prunes so we can grow. We fertilize the ground for the plants to grow strong and healthy. He gives us increase. Him giving the increase is like us adding fertilizer to help the plants be healthy and grow. As I was pulling weeds and vines that where choking other plants, He was telling me how we have similar things in us that choke His Word and Holy Spirit.

We have layers like an onion has layers. The pain, sorrow… we have in life makes these weeds that can become layers or walls. As we give God place, he gently pulls the weeds leaving room for us to grow. I say layers like an onion because one can go through a period where God helped clean an area and a similar one comes to the surface.

When we garden, we try to get to the root of the weed so it does not grow back. God gets to the root, when we give Him place, He gets even the very fine roots. Is it a painful process? Yes, as this process happens, we receive healing in the hurts and we are dying to self. Is it worth it? Yes, He whom the Son sets free is free indeed. We begin to become the person He called us to be from before the earth was formed. We decrease and He increases in us. Jesus, You, are the vine, we are the branches. We abide in You, You, abide in us, we will bring forth much fruit. Apart from you we can do nothing. I pray that all men abide in You, so their branch does not whither and be thrown into the fire to be burned. Thank You, if we abide in You and Your Word abides in us, You, hear our prayers. We want our ground to be fertile as to grow deep roots in Your Word. Glory to God, in Jesus name. Amen
